  • holds a national conference and 2 mid-term conferences every year
  • publishes Indian Journal of Gastroenterology
  • Indian Society of Gastroenterology is a member of 2 international societies:
    • World Gastroenterology Organization (WGO)
    • Asian Pacific Association of Gastroenterology (APAGE)

Badri Nath Tandon, a doyen of Indian gastroenterology & hepatology, has passed away on March 4th, 2018. He was a guru and an inspiration to many of today’s eminent gastroenterologists, teachers and research scientists. He had set extremely high standards for personal integrity, hard work and passion for teaching, medical research as well as clinical work. For his immense contribution, he was awarded prestigious Padma Bhushan by the Govt of India. He served Indian Society of Gastroenterology as Secretary General and then as a President. Besides being the founder of the Department of Gastroenterology at AIIMS, he led many national schemes of Govt of India including Integrated Child Development Services. He describedfor the first time many diseases including subhepatic liver failure. We pay our respect and homage to Professor BN Tandon. We pray that Almighty blesses courage to the family and friends to withstand the demise of Prof Tandon.
